I haven't posted since the beginning of January, so I apologize for the huge lapse. For Christmas, Craig and I spent our first Christmas with just the two of us and Scout. We bought ourselves a new TV and entertainment center for Christmas, so we promised not to get each other any gifts. Well, we all know how that goes! But we actually did good and only bought a couple of things for each other, and they are really for both of us. I got up early on Christmas morning and made us breakfast and we enjoyed a lazy few days of just us hanging out. It was strange to not be with any of our extended family, but it was kind of nice to just be our family of 3. We stayed in for New Year's (let's face it, there isn't much to do here in Bozeman) and we started of the New Year with freezing cold temperatures and lots of snow. My mom came to visit at the end of January. We went to Chico Hot Springs and went dog sledding. It was so much fun! We had 2 dog teams, one with 6 dogs and one with 10 dogs. There was the 3 of us and a guide. We all got to drive the sleds at one points, and mom and I took lots of pictures.
Then we went and soaked in the 2 hot spring pools that they have. It was a fun trip, and we are so glad we did the dog sledding. Mom and I went skiing at Bridger Bowl one day, but it was really cold. I got to where I couldn't feel my hands and feet and had to stop. Also, it was dumping snow that day, so a lot of the runs were not as they appeared on the map. Overall, I was not impressed by Bridger Bowl, it was mostly black runs, which isn't very fun for mom or I. Although I have to admit, I am kind of a ski snob, I did move here from SLC :)
February was more of the same. Bad weather all around. All of the schools in the Dallas area actually closed down for almost a week because of snow and ice. They didn't close school here, but it was very, very cold. Around the end of February, Craig had to go to Ogden (30 min north of SLC) for some training, so he asked if I wanted to come along and hang out in SLC. Well, yeah! Of course! So, we left on a Wednesday morning and headed to SLC with Scout in tow. I stayed at our friends Eric and Teresa's while Craig was in training for 2 days. It was so nice to get back to reality for a few days. I shopped, ate, got a fabulous massage, and we hung out with our old Survivor crew on Friday night. We had a blast and we miss those guys so much! It was nice to get out of Bozeman and back to our old life for a few days.
When we got back, Craig tried for a week to convince me that we needed another dog. Dakota has been gone for almost 2 years now, and Scout apparently looked bored. I was very opposed to it, especially since I would be the one taking care of this new dog all day, everyday. We both decided that we would look at the shelter, and only if we thought the RIGHT dog was available, would we even consider it. Well, Craig found a Border Collie mix named Gigi that appeared to be about 10 months old and was found wandering the streets. I said no. He kept leaving her picture up on the computer. I said no. He somehow convinced me to go look at her. I said no. He brought Scout up to the shelter to see if they got along (which they did, nothing phases Scout). I said no. The next day, we brought her home. We spent most of the night discussing how we would both take care of her (them) and we would get her into training from the beginning. We also discussed names and finally settled on Olive. (I couldn't handle Gigi, sorry people). She weighs 24 pounds and is full of energy. She is super smart (she IS a Border Collie) and she loves her new home. I have taken her to one session of one on one training, and she and I start 6 weeks of training next week at the shelter. She has been a lot of fun, and even Scout at her old age of 9, has fun wrestling with her. Here she is!
Scout and I have been volunteering as a Therapy Dog Team with Intermountain Therapy Animals. I had to go through a day of training, and then she and I had to pass a test of basic commands, etc. to become a Therapy Team. We passed, and we have been visiting a Rehab facility here in Bozeman every week. Scout loves it. She gets to go get loved on for an hour and everyone thinks she is so sweet. Here is a picture of us before our first official visit:
I started a new diet program called Take Shape for Life back in December. I have taken a few breaks (otherwise my progress would be better) but as of this past Monday, I have lost 29 pounds. That last pound is holding on to me very tightly! It has been a big change, but I feel so much better, and so much more like myself. We have really not eaten out at all (except for SLC, I mean really), and Craig and I are both trying to eat healthier. I am going to stick with it for a couple more months and then gradually start incorporating more food into my diet. I won't go into detail about the diet, but you can Google it if you want more info. I have been really happy with the results, and it has made me much more aware of all the crap I used to eat. It has been hard not to eat a lot of my favorite foods, but honestly, they don't even taste as good as they used to. If I get brave, I will post some new pics soon, but don't hold your breath.
So, I think that about covers it. We're still alive here in Bozeman, just freezing and waiting on Summer to get here. Craig is still working away and I am still trying to find something to occupy my time. The dogs and volunteering keep me busy, and when it gets warmer, I am going to tackle the garage and have another garage sale. We miss everyone and please ask that you send your warm weather our way!
